As the trip names ABODE OF CLOUDS, is the ultimate romance of nature. The exhilarating beauty that you can't afford to miss.
Meghalaya |
This June, we, a group of 8 friends *(KABIRAA BOYZ) planned a trip to Meghalaya naming the trip as "ABODE OF CLOUDS". Starting of June is the best time to visit here, when the monsoon is ready to bliss you up. The giant clouds shower unexpected cool tiny droplets making you fully energized., making the north east uniquely blissful. The cool air is full of mist and you can almost get lost in the beauty. There are times when the sun will peep up and will make it to leen out. All in one, Meghalaya is the scintillating beauty which is worth experiencing.
We started our journey from Kolkata on 7th June, 2019. We board a train from Howrah and reached Guwahati the very next day. Then we left for the roads, a drive of almost 100kms, full of clouds covering the mountains, full of scenic beauty on the road in the middle of the mountains. We took a hold for half an hour in a roadside dhaba. We boosted our bodies and resumed the journey towards the destination. the beauty playing in the sky, sunny sometimes, sometimes rainy, brought trill towards the way.
Day1: The Adventure Begins!
So, the start was a bit bad. We planned to leave our rooms be 7 in the morning, but the name wettest on the Earth is for a reason, it was raining heavily and we haven't packed our raingaurds with us, so we couldn't go out. (tip1: Carrying your rainguards is essential here).
After 2 hours the rain stopped and we left towards the market for raincoats.
Then, we took our bikes and left for the visits. On our way to the laitlum canyon we had a hault for 10-15 minutes to capture the nature and explore the unexplored.
(Tip2: In the way to the laitlum there are many places to explore). |
Then we resumed to the way. It wasn't raining but as we were passing through the clouds which made us all wet. We reached to the laitlum canyon and after seeing the place we gad a immense feeling, we walked, we ran, we fall. A feeling like a fairy tale! Heaven. Paradise. Peace.
Then we left for The Elephant Falls. After such an unrealistic experience elephant falls was a bit normal. But the way, the roads, the curves in the roads were unbelievable.
Then we left for the Shillong peak, some roads, some off-roads, creating a shivering experience. In the peak we found some Arunachal guys dancing and chilling. Then they said us to join and we danced together like old school friends!
and we headed back our ways!
Day2: The trek
The all day trek begins. We left our hotel by 8.00 in the morning and reached to Mawhphlang village "THE SACRED FOREST". There we found a dog named "GHOST" reason being he had only one eye like the rapper called ghost.
We started the 26km trek, the David's Scott Trail with the Sacred Forest trek. The dog came with us for the trek which we didn't expected, only because we loved him and feed him! In the forest trek we learnt many thing regarding the ancient old khasi peoples, they, their rituals, their rules! The forest trek was 8km long. After a continuous walk we had a break with the dog on the way to the starting point of the David's. We started the David's trek with the dog, our ultimate motivator. The dog being our guide, went almost half our way. But later we reached a bridge which the dog was scared off to cross. We crossed the bridge then saw the dog trying to cross the bridge, but couldn't. Then he went down to cross the river, but the speed of the river was so high that he started drowning and got hit the rocks, then shouted to take him with us, but neither we could nor he can come. So, we left, all lighthearted. After a long climb of 4 hours we reached to a village and had a Maggi with tea break. It was already 6 in the evening and the sun was almost set.David Scott's Trail |

Mawsmai Caves |
Day3: Nature Is Here!Day3 started with a late and painful morning. But with a beautiful scenic beauty, the fall, the mountains and the clouds covering all of them! We booked a cab which will take us to Arwah Caves, Mawsmai Caves, Nohakhalikai Falls and drop us to starting point of Double deckar Living footbridge. The adventure starts in here! The double decker living footbridge. The trek for 3500 stairs through the jungles startes by 5.00 pm when the sun is ready to dawn, the way full of insects and scary sounds. In the way we found 4 bridges, 1 normal bridge, 2 living root footbridge and 1 suspension rope bridge which was the most thrilling. It took 1 hour to down the bridge and there we found a homestay made up of bamboo over a rock.
We freshen up there and layed down on the rocks in the open sky full of stars in the full moon between the rocks and the falls. We fueled up our empty stomach at the homestay itself by the hill peoples, full of there special dishes and full of there love to us.
Day4: Paradise. We changed the plan here. We had plan to leave for dawki today, but seeing the beauty here, we can't afford to miss that. So, we planned to give one more day here and leave the next day. In the morning we had tea near the waterfront and the rootbridge, like any dream being accomplished. Then we went to the double decker living root footbridge, the main attraction! The speedy waterfall splashing the rocks underneath the double decker rootbridge. Something Incredible. The crystal clear, full of fishes made up jump into that shivering water, something unplanned.

Resting and roaming we passed our time for the dinner!
Day5: The trip changer! We started our journey to the up and to leave for dawki river, the untold story of the crystal water. It took our lives to reach the starting point, but we need to do that because we had no other option! The stairs are namely stairs, they are all inclined! It took 2 hours for us to reach up on the roads. There we rested and had food, and left to dawki river. Almost 80kms via Shillong, the highways through the forests, cutting the mountains covered by clouds, not letting us see anything, all enthusiased. But, the destination was not worth that enthusiasm, as we felt. The dawki river is simply like a pond near to some city, no doubt the water is amazingly clear! But, the river is divided into two parts, 3/4th of the shore in India and the rest to the Bangladesh. The tourists not allowed to cross the invisible border guarded by the forces of both the nations. This is what all dawki river is.
